Pentecost Sunday: Who is the Holy Spirit?

What truly happened on the day of Pentecost—and why does it matter to believers today? In this sermon, Apostle unpacks the powerful significance of Pentecost Sunday, describing it as the day when the full power of the Father was poured out upon the church through the Holy Spirit. Citing the prophecy in Joel 2:28-29, he explains that God's Spirit was promised to all—sons and daughters, the old and the young, even servants—enabling them to prophesy, dream dreams, and see visions. This prophecy finds its dramatic fulfilment in Acts 2:1-4, where the Holy Spirit descended like a violent wind, with tongues of fire resting on each individual, resulting in everyone being filled and speaking in tongues. Apostle Williams emphasises that this was not a one-time event but the divine pattern for equipping the Church.

He passionately asserts that the Holy Spirit is an indispensable necessity for every believer. Quoting Acts 1:8, he stresses that it is through the Spirit that believers receive power—to cast out devils, heal the sick, and even raise the dead, as Peter did in the Book of Acts. He shares personal testimonies of supernatural encounters and reminds listeners of Luke 3:16, where John the Baptist foretold that Jesus would baptise with the Holy Spirit and fire. Through 2 Corinthians 5:17, Apostle Williams affirms that salvation makes us new creations, reconnecting us to God's divine nature and positioning us as heirs with Christ. He concludes by urging believers to seek the baptism of the Holy Spirit through focused prayer, explaining that it brings not only spiritual transformation and boldness in witnessing, but also empowers success in one's personal and professional life.
